LeLievre Brut Rose - Cotes de Toul, France NV - Vincent and David LeLievre farm a tiny parcel of land in the Cotes du Toul appelation of France’s Northeastern corridor. Lying equidistant between Champagne, Germany’s Mosel valley, and Alsace, you might know this is a cool climate for producing great whites, nervy , mineral driven reds, and of course, bubbles. This sparkler is made 100% from Gamay grapes. Pressed off the red skins to obtain that gorgeous candy pink color. The liquid and sediment is then aged in stainless steel vats on the lees for 4 months to guarantee a flavorsome experience, then secondarily fermented in the bottle exactly like Champagne for that creamy-floaty mouthfeel. Bright, coral/pink color. Joyful nose, with notes of wild strawberry and sweet raspberry. A delicate and full-bodied mouth, evoking subtle flavors of starbursts & grapefruit. Lightly creamy and deliciously yeasty finish. Available in full and half sizes!!
Blackbird Vineyards ‘Arriviste’ Rose - Napa Valley, California 2018 - Inspired by "les gitanes," the gypsies of St. Emilion in Bordeaux, France - Blackbird Vineyards' Arriviste captures the high-spirited nature of Aaron Pott’s wine making. Trained and traveled in Bordeaux and Napa, Aaron makes wine making look much too easy for my liking. This vibrant, plump and puckish rosé conjures images of summer’s twilight and fall’s harvest moon. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot pressings from Oakville vineyards build a huge, (damn near red) wine body. It’s striking aromas of strawberry, plum, and orange zest are painted bright - over a big roaring mid-palate chassis of spice and ripe cherry fruit. Expertly balanced acidity; it finishes with pear, peach and more soft cherry kisses in a lengthy, luxurious finish.
Clos de la Roilette ‘Fleurie’ - Beaujolais, France 2018 - The Clos de la Roilette, in the village of Fleurie, covers nine hectares of one of the best slopes in the Beaujolais Crus. The clos has an eastern exposure, borders the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, and produces wines that are beautiful when young and have the capacity to age 5-10 years, depending on the vintage. Every year we anxiously await the allocated, small, yearly drop of Clos. If there is a red wine more perfect for the Thanksgiving table, I’ve yet to find it. Winemaker Alain Coudert believes the exposure, soil, and the age of the Gamay vines (30-80 years) accounts for the richness and intensity of this wine. The deep, primary and almost bottomless nose offers up an insanely pure and gorgeous blend of black cherries, plums, raw cocoa, dark soil tones, a touch of lavender, wood smoke and finely chopped fresh herbs. Open this up a day (or two) before the meal and it will be ready to blow you away. Grab a couple of extra bottles to store for next year, this wine will age like an absolute champ!!
Elizabeth Spencer ‘Special Cuvee’ Pinot Noir - Sonoma Coast, California 2017 - The fruit for this Pinot Noir is sourced from a vineyard is located just north of the San Pablo Bay in the Petaluma Gap region. This area is part of the Sonoma Coast Appellation and experiences a great cooling influence from a naturally formed 15-mile wide “gap” in the coastal range mountains that acts as a wind funnel, pulling cool air from the Pacific Ocean through the gap and into the bay, defining the area and giving the term “Micro-Climate” real meaning. With moderate day and night temperatures along with a daily breeze in late summer and early fall, the weather here is ideal for expressive Pinot Noir. A brilliant garnet color, with aromas of Bing cherry, black chai tea, wild bramble berries, spicy nutmeg and cardamom. Soft and juicy with a delicate structure and texture offering rich red fruits, ripe plum and pomegranate flavors. You’re special. You deserve a special cuvee.
Joseph Cattin Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Hatschbourg - Alsace, France 2015 - This, my friends is most likely the best Gewurz you’ve ever had!! It tastes like magical elves made it… In 1983, the Hatschbourg vineyard was awarded its grand cru status, and today Joseph Cattin ranks among the top producers. On the nose, luscious ripe peach notes, pear, lychee, lemon compote and fresh flowers. On the palate, generous richness boosts all the fruit flavor to an intense, mouth-filling luscious crescendo. There is gorgeous balance in the form of lemony freshness, tangy intensity, and a lovely, weighty, texture. Thanksgiving will just never be the same again!!
