After Hours - Wicked Weed Sour Class

Since 2014 we have been bringing you the stellar beers from Wicked Weed Brewing Company out of Asheville. For the second time we will be featuring them with a complete 10 tap takeover! Wicked Weed is continuing to grow and this year it’s going to take 2 days to feature everything coming out of the Brewery!

Event 1:

Friday, May 18th at 8:00 p.m. (closed to the public, ticketed guests only)

World renowned for their sour program, Wicked Weed is one of the leaders when it comes to the production of sour beers. Join us for a special after-hours event with the rare opportunity to learn first-hand about what makes Wicked Weed an industry leader. We will talk about what makes a beer sour, the difference between kettle and barrel-aged sours, how is the fruit flavor achieved, and much more. Our class will be led by Wicked Weed’s Head Sour Brewer Eric and Sour Team Lead Jen and our local brewery rep Kevin Pelham.  Any lover of sour beer, or someone who is interested in learning more about the science behind sour beer shouldn’t miss out! We will be featuring 5 different sour options with light snacks served. Guests will get 6oz pours of each of the beers.

Tickets to the event are $35 plus tax and are limited to 32 people! As mentioned before your ticket includes 5 – six ounce pours of beer served with light snacks. Also for attending the event you will have the opportunity to purchase bottles of Framboos Morte, and other featured beers!

Tickets can be reserved by coming in or calling the shop (919-615-1703) and ask for Bruce or Dustin. Payment is required when you reserve tickets.

Featured Sours:
Tropicmost Gose: “For us, this Old World-inspired beer is mile zero–the point at which we trustfully spin the needle on the compass and follow at will. From the warmer climates of equatorial lands, this Gose takes its tropic inspiration. Brewed with tart passion fruit and flavor-brightening sea salt, Tropicmost Gose is a roadmap of the Southern Americas.”

Metatropics: “Metatropics is a collaboration beer that flips current IPA orthodoxy onto its head. Wicked Weed and Trois Dames love using hops to produce an equatorial, citrusy character, but decided to deconstruct this process to forge something new. This beer employs real pineapple, passionfruit, mango, grapefruit, and tangerine to emulate tropical hop flavors. The addition of brettanomyces wild yeast takes this beer to new heights of meta-refreshment.”

Oblivion: “Oblivion is a sour red ale aged with blackberries and dates in red wine barrels for up to 12 months. This ale is then carefully blended to create depth and balance that will envelope you in its complexity.”

Sandiaca: “The newest addition to the Wicked Weed Canvas series of sours, Sandiaca is an American sour ale aged in fresh gin barrels with brisk basil and bright watermelon. This botanical, tropical, and herbal sour ale showcases the complexity of our house culture in conjunction with the finest produce and barrel-aging. Once this beer reaches its peak, we blend the gin barrels to attain the perfect resonance of Rayburn Farms, NC grown basil and refreshing watermelon in a sour ale.”

Framboos Morte: Best described as “epically raspberry” Framboos Morte is a fruited sour that pays homage to the traditional lambic sours from Belgium. Hopped aggressively with aged hops and packed full of 4 pounds per barrel of bright and fresh of the vine raspberries, the end product creates what many Wicked Weed fans call the best sour Wicked Weed makes! Usually the only place to find bottles of this are at the Funkatorium or Wicked Weed Brewpub in Asheville, so we are definitely lucky to get our hands on some cases!
