California Wine Trails: Rare and Wild!
A BottleMixx two part tasting event – Saturday December 10th and Saturday December 17th
There is a $5 Tasting Fee for each tasting session; discounts will apply to featured wines on the day of the tasting!
At BottleMixx we love California wines – even better we love California wines that are ”rare and wild”, not industrial mass produced and dosed with sugar, juice concentrate and who knows what else. At these tastings we will feature 8 wines over the course of two tastings that concentrate on smaller family producers making incredible wine in every style imaginable. Come join us for one or both tastings and take advantage of special tasting discounts as you discover some of the best wines California has to offer!
Donkey & Goat ‘Sluice Box White’ 2014
The Donkey is Jared and the Goat is Tracy but the stubborn husband and wife team at this boutique urban winery never seem to back down from a challenge. 43% Vermentino as a base, with Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul in reverence to and emulation of the minerality and verve of Rhone Valley whites and the zesty/creamy essence of Italian Vermentino. Fruit sourced from El Dorado in the Sierra Foothills and made into a wholly unique wine greater than the sum of it’s parts.
Eric Kent Luke’s Grove Russian River Chardonnay 2014
276 cases of this Fantastic Chardonnay is all that was produced. Luke was a yellow lab who watched over the Stiling vineyard in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley greeting visitors with a wagging tail and puppy smile until the day he died. The Chardonnay was named after him and his dedication. Rued clone Chardonnay is like candy for adults. Rich, opulent, caramel wrapped around tropical fruit. Grown on these prime vineyard sites it is elevated to an art form.
RPM Gamay Noir 2014
If you’ve seen SOMM, you’re familiar with Rajat Parr. Sommelier Svengali and restauranteur supreme. He’s turned quite a fantastic winemaker these days producing Pinot Noir and Gamay, two of his loves. This is a collaborative effort with Duncan Arnot Myers of Arnot-Roberts. This Gamay is sourced from two vineyards in El Dorado county, Barsatti and Withers. These high altitude vineyards contain volcanic clays as well as decomposing granite soils similar to Beaujolais in France, the home of the Gamay grape. Bottled unfined and unfiltered and with acidity aromatics and that tremendous California energy.
Coturri Petite Sirah 2009
This wine is sourced from a single vineyard named Testa after an immigrant family 100 years ago sitting in between Uriah and Redwood valley in Mendocino. This is a super rare Petite Sirah, made organically and in an old school way with native yeasts and fermented in open-top Redwood fermenters pushing down the cap for extraction 4 times a day. Committed winemaking, zany dudes, delicious natural wine. Check it out.
